Opera and Motorola sign agreement
By: Anthony Newman, Friday 6th February 2004, 12:40 GMT

Opera Software and Motorola today announced that they have entered into an agreement to deliver a joint product offering consisting of Opera’s “full” HTML browser software and the WAP stack from GSG’s browser software, creating one-stop shopping for cellular phone browsers.

Opera’s full HTML browser provides desktop functionality on a cellular phone. The combination with GSG’s WAP stack allows the Opera browser to work in the WAP environment. This joint product offering gives operators the benefit of their existing investment in current WAP infrastructure, and at the same time the benefit of an HTML browser.

The product offering is designed to work on operators’ existing WAP infrastructure while enabling the revenue-driving HTML content that is now basic to the embedded devices marketplace. Opera and GSG will each license the combined product offering to operators. Opera will also license Motorola’s WAP Browser and MMS device client to customers as individual products.
