Polar Electro, a leading manufacturer of sports instruments and heart rate monitoring equipment, and Nokia has announced a formal cooperation to mobilize equipment often used by high performance athletes and sports enthusiasts. As a result of their cooperation, the recently announced Nokia 5140 phone connects wirelessly with top-of-the-line Polar products such as the the Polar S625X Running Computer and S725 Cycling Monitor.
A Polar Java application has been created and optimised for the Nokia 5140 phone, available for purchase from the Nokia Software Market web site. Courtesy of this application, runners and cyclists will be able to send physiological and environmental exercise data from a Polar S625X Running Computer and S725 Cycling Monitor wirelessly to a Nokia 5140 mobile phone.
The software enables athletes to view physiological and environmental exercise/training summaries immediately on the phone's screen, which also offers additional storage capacity for more training data and enables the sharing of data. What's more, users can transfer training or competition data instantly over-the-air from the Nokia 5140 phone via SMS, providing runners and cyclists with the opportunity for advanced performance analysis during training or competition.
The wireless connectivity feature offered by the Polar S625X Running Computer and S725 Cycling Monitor with the Nokia 5140 mobile phone will be available in the 2nd quarter of 2004.
Announced last year, the sporty Nokia 5140 is the first phone from Nokia specifically designed with sports in mind to include an integrated VGA camera. In addition to an integrated camera, flashlight and colour display, the Nokia 5140 also features removable covers which offer additional protection against dust, bumps and splashes.
The Nokia 5140 phone is planned to be available in the second quarter of 2004, according to Nokia.
