Another memory card format unveiled
By: Anthony Newman, Friday 30th January 2004, 10:37 GMT

CF I, CF II, MS, SD, MMC, SM, XD, miniSD, MS Duo, MS PRO - the list of portable flash memory formats is already extensive. A new group, calling themselves the Universal Transportable Memory Association (UTMA) have gone ahead and designed an enigmatic new format that is smaller than SD and connects via USB.

The cards, which will start at a capacity of 1 GB, are designed for cameras primarily, with the association also looking to capture some of the blooming revenue in the areas of mobile phones, music players and PDAs.

No information on pricing or availability was available at the time of writing, but the association promise further announcements on February 5th.
